Published by Linda Oloughlin at 8:32 am under Miscellaneous

Springer Spaniel is an intelligent dog who catch on to new things easily. The Springer is the right choice for either a city or country home because they are so eager to please, loyal and like people. They are energetic and playful animals, and many owners find humor in their play. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are wonderful with children and are a perfect choice for families. Children should be supervised with all breeds of dogs.

The Springer brand of dogs are generally friendly and always looking to make their owners happy. Some people have compared their temperament to the popular Golden Retriever. They are happy to just be with their family even if that means just lying around the house. They are very flexible and acclimate easily to various activity levels, as long as they are allowed to be with people as much as possible. Springer Spaniels are incredibly affectionate! We know this from experience. As breeders, we have raised a lot of puppies and can absolutely testify to this fact.

Normally weighing between 35-55 pounds at adulthood this is the English Springer Spaniel breed which is medium in size. They are generally very strong dogs that live anywhere between ten and fourteen years. Field bred Spingers have short hair and are generally more active than the show bred types. Both field bred and show bred Springer Spaniels have docked tails. The difference is, the field bred dogs tail is docked longer. The reason for this is that the tail is an important hunting tool It acts as an alert signal for the hunter.

The coat colors for English Springer Spaniels comes in either two combinations of black and white or liver and white. A tri-color combination exists, charactized by a liver, white, and black coat, but this combination occurs infrequently and only results when the sire and dam are both tri-color as well. These are easily recognised by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.

English Springer Spaniels were bred to be natural hunters with a lot of energy, so you can expect your Springer to enjoy running around, sniffing out “game,”and retrieving things for you. Springers love the water and would enjoy spending the entire day outside with their owners as they are not especially affected by weather. Being a very old breed they have been popular dogs for a long, long time. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. These loving animals can find a place in anyones heart and home which is something we have experienced.
